Getting Started

The WVLBC is always looking for new people to join our club and be part of a great group of people. Not only does our club offer bowling 12 months of the year, but it has many amenities to offer to members. The club hosts many special events, holiday parties, BBQs and charity functions.

  • Coaching

Coaching is available throughout the summer (see calendar). The club is lucky enough to have volunteers who will help new members in strategy, skills and etiquette of the game -feel free to bring your friends and come and join the fun. For coaching inquires please contact us.

  • Equipment

No Bowls? Not a problem as the club has all the equipment necessary to get you off and running. You don’t have to purchase anything to get started. We supply the bowls and equipment for your lessons and games. You can use the club bowls as long as you would like until you are set to make the commitment to buy your own. We have direct ties to all the top lines of bowls and as well as having used bowls for sale.

  • Attire

Wear comfortable clothing and flat soled shoes.

In the past, Lawn bowling clubs had rules about wearing whites while playing the sport. This is no longer the case. Members are encouraged to wear comfortable clothing of their choosing when participating in practice or club draws. For special occasions, such as Canada Day, there may be a request to wear red clothing or a costume on Hallowe’en but it is not mandatory. When we participate in inter-club competitions we typically wear a team shirt with the club logo. As to footwear, flat running or court shoes (or even sandals) are suitable.

  • Inclusivity

Established in 1934, the West Vancouver Lawn Bowling Club promotes and fosters the active lifetime sports of lawn bowling and croquet to all ages and abilities in a safe and inclusive environment. We have game draws that include both women and men competing against each other in a friendly recreational manner.

  • Level of Play

The WVLBC has a diverse mix of new and experienced bowlers. A new bowler can choose to play only at the club level or as their skill increases they can sign up to compete with other clubs or even the Provincial or National level. Most members are happy to play only in the friendly recreational games within the club. There is no pressure to compete at a higher level.

We want you to try out the sport to see if it’s for you so that you feel comfortable. We encourage you to come out and try the game before you commit to being our newest recruit.
