It is hard to believe that another outdoor season has come and gone that quickly; seems like they are getting shorter each year! This past year, being my last as president, presented me with the opportunity to step back and see how far the club and our members have come over the last five years. To be able to see the positive changes we have made at the club, in the sport and in the community, was rewarding, and to note how some members have really stepped up to make this the bowls club that we have envisioned together.

The WVLBC board and volunteers have striven to make the clubhouse, greens and surroundings first class. The main five goals that we thought were always important to concentrate on, and always will be are:

  • Creating a fantastic atmosphere for our members
  • Increasing our membership
  • Sharing the facility with the community
  • Injecting profit into the club
  • Hosting great tournaments and functions

I believe that we have produced all of the above. WVLBC is the best club throughout the province and the country, with regards to innovative ideas and working hard to grow the Sport and giving a first class facility to its members and community. We have shared great times with club tournaments, draws, evening games and holiday parties for our members, along with club championships and BBQs. We even hosted a wedding this year. Our partnerships remain strong within the city, with community sponsors, city council, local schools, along with a continued partnership with the Lions Club which has contributed so much to us once again.

New equipment was purchased to ensure that our greens can be maintained to perfection and led by Howard Chapman; the volunteers have done an amazing job again this year. The clubhouse and gardens are in great shape, and always receive compliments from members and visitors.

I would like to thank my current, and all previous board members for allowing me the opportunity of injecting a different perspective into WVLBC over the last six years. We have worked together, discussed and tried our best to make it a great club. I would also like to thank Sue Hall, John Copping, Myrle Lawrence, Drew Wells, Sydney and the late Ken Hope for standing by me throughout my years as President, and helping me learn to be a better leader and person. I would like to acknowledge the Becks, Chapmans, Coppings, Fladls, Fairweathers, Lampmans, Seddons, Don Fraser, Jack Wright, Radka Barova, the late John Lucas and all the Tiddlycove Lions Club members for their support over the years. I cannot mention all the many friends who have volunteered countless hours and guided me over the years; I hope you know who you are, and I look forward to reaching out to you individually.

This club will always be dear to me, as you have all watched me grow up, represent our province, and our country, and be proud to call WVLBC my home club. I have enjoyed my time as your Club President and would like to thank you all for giving me the opportunity.

Tim Mason

WVLBC President
